Finding senior software engineers in the Netherlands takes months, and every vacant seat slows your roadmap. With staff augmentation, experienced engineers join your team within weeks. Nearshoring to Eastern Europe is popular for good reasons: deep technical talent, rates below the Dutch market, and a time zone that matches yours. Most providers operate from Poland or Ukraine, where years of rising demand have pushed rates up and staff turnover along with them.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is the country most companies overlook. It is a candidate for EU membership, Sarajevo works in the same time zone as Amsterdam, and its technical universities produce strong engineers who tend to stay with one employer. That stability matters: an external engineer who leaves after six months takes your product knowledge along. Our engineers are employed by Isatis, many have worked together for years, and turnover in our Sarajevo office is low.
A large part of the staff augmentation market consists of brokers. They match you with freelancers they barely know, take a margin, and leave the risk with you. When an engineer leaves or underdelivers, the broker moves on to the next CV.
Isatis employs its engineers. We are a Dutch software company, founded more than 30 years ago, with offices in Nijmegen and Sarajevo. Your contract falls under Dutch law, and management, quality assurance, and liability sit in the Netherlands. The engineering happens nearshore, in an office that has been part of Isatis for years. And where many providers promise that they meet European rules, we show the certificates: Isatis is ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified, and an external auditor checks both.
Staff augmentation fits when you keep product ownership and technical direction yourself and need extra capacity or expertise: engineers join your team, your product knowledge stays inside, and you scale per engineer. Outsourcing fits a project with a clear scope that a supplier delivers end to end. Hiring yourself fits permanent core roles, if you can afford the months it takes.
Both models can come from the same partner. Our staff augmentation service page describes the model in detail, and for full project delivery we can field a dedicated team as well.
You stay in control at every step. It starts with an intake: we map your stack, your team setup, and the gap you want to fill, and you talk with people who build software themselves. We then propose engineers from our Sarajevo team, with their track record. You interview them and decide who joins.
From day one the engineer works in your sprint rhythm, your tools, and your standards, during your working hours. We evaluate at fixed moments: you can scale up when the roadmap grows, and if an engineer turns out to be a poor fit, we propose a replacement from our own team. Quality never depends on one individual: engineers have senior colleagues behind them, code goes through review, and a Dutch point of contact checks progress with you at a fixed rhythm.
Everyone asks this question and few providers answer it. The rate for an augmented engineer depends on three factors: seniority and specialization, team size and duration, and the role you want us to play, from engineers only to technical leadership and delivery coordination.
Naming an amount without knowing your situation would be a guess, and a guess is a poor basis for a budget. After one call you get a concrete proposal with clear assumptions. What we can say: because our engineers work from Sarajevo, rates are sharper than hiring the same seniority in the Netherlands, without the risks of an anonymous outsourcer.
For ST Engineering, a global player in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), we build and maintain software that supports their MRO operations. Engineers from our Sarajevo office have worked on this software for years, within the strict aerospace requirements for quality and documentation. The team knows the domain, the codebase, and the people. That continuity is exactly what staff augmentation should deliver.
Clients also include NCare, Deron, and Ignite Group, across healthcare, logistics, and the public sector.

Schedule a callWith staff augmentation, engineers join your team and work under your direction, in your sprint rhythm and your codebase. With outsourcing, you hand a defined project to a supplier who delivers a result. Augmentation keeps knowledge and control inside your organization.
That depends on the profile and our planning. For common profiles we usually propose candidates within days, and after your interviews an engineer often starts within a few weeks. During the intake we give you an honest timeline for your specific request.
Our engineers are employed by Isatis and work within processes that are ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certified. They can fall back on senior colleagues, code goes through review, and a Dutch point of contact monitors progress together with you.
Our 30+ engineers cover backend, frontend, cloud, and integration work, built up across 100+ projects in healthcare, education, manufacturing, government, and energy. Share your stack during the intake and we propose engineers with proof of similar work.
Our Sarajevo office works in the same time zone as the Netherlands, so your standup is their standup too. Engineers use your tools and join your meetings. Visiting each other is easy as well: the flight from Amsterdam takes around two hours.
